THE RIDGE PROJECT HOSTS 12th ANNUAL FILM CAMP FOR TEENS
The RIDGE Project recently hosted our 12th annual summer Film Camp at YMCA Camp Willson in Bellefontaine, OH. Teens from all across Ohio came together to form one unified voice against risky behaviors. The camp participants produced six, 30-second long Public Service Announcements (PSA's) encouraging peers to avoid sex outside of marriage, drugs, alcohol, and other risky behaviors. At the end of the week, a Film Festival showcased the tremendous works by campgoers. The entries were judged and the winning PSA is set to air on major TV networks such as MTV, TNT, ESPN, ABC Family, BET, and more.
Throughout the week, the teens participated in workshops to equip them to make healthy life decisions and avoid risky behaviors. Camp participants received advice and direction on their productions from This Is Love Photography, while many groups and organizations also donated items to make the event a success. Youth program coordinator Matt Nelson remarked, "This was one of the smoothest years we've ever had. The kids were great and the staff and volunteers did a wonderful job!"
The camp was in no shortage of successful, positive role models either. Inspirational guests for the week who helped to empower the teens to be leaders in their spheres of influence included actress, model, and fashion blogger Rachel McCord Schirmer (www.themccordlist.com), Rick Schirmer of Tango Group, who has been a leader in the launches of over 200 campaigns for motion pictures, television shows and Fortune 500 brands, Stephanie LaFlora, Digital Strategy & Creative Director at Gloo, Richard Hodges, Director of the Ohio Department of Health, and Doctor Charles Lee-Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at National Family Life and Education Center.

Film Camp History
Film Camp began in 2003 as a vision of Blake and Brandon Tijerina, Ron and Cathy's teenage sons. They began developing Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and TV shows while recruiting other youth to participate, and soon Film Camp was born.
Since 2003, The RIDGE Project has hosted an annual film camp for youth that has now grown to include youth from across Ohio. The youth are challenged to stand against the negative influences of pop culture. They develop, star in, and produce their own 30 second PSAs. At the end of the week, they host a film festival at which a panel of judges chooses the winning PSA. That PSA is then distributed and aired on TV stations throughout the state. We are always looking for passionate volunteers to contribute to the ongoing success of the camp. Click here for the volunteer application.
