The Summit launched both national and local chapters of the TYRO Alumni Community (TAC), a peer group for individuals who complete TYRO training. The national TAC will oversee the local chapters, which will support the growing TYRO movement around the nation. TYROs came from Ohio, Maryland, Colorado, and Texas to attend the 2016 Summit.

Event participants heard from TYRO co-creators Ron and Catherine Tijerina, successful entrepreneur Al Caperna, Charles Dillon from Anthem Strong Families based out of Dallas, and other notable speakers during the day. Topics ranged from mentoring and leadership to setting up a successful nonprofit, as well as education on the new TYRO 365 digital space. The event was sponsored by two managed care providers, Molina HealthCare and Buckeye Health Plan, who each had a representative on-hand to speak to the crowd about their health care options. RIDGE co-founder Ron Tijerina opened the event by welcoming the attendees and noting that, "It's great to see TYRO represented in so many different areas of our country," while co-founder Cathy Tijerina stated, "We are moving from an army of one, to one army," in reference to the pro-social TYRO movement.
TYRO is a Latin word meaning an apprentice, novice, or someone learning something new. The transformative, character-building TYRO curriculum was developed by Ron and Catherine Tijerina, and teaches both men and women to live lives of honor, discipline, and responsibility. This training, which originally started within the Ohio prison system, has expanded to outside entities in recent years, including some employers. TYRO graduates bear a pin of honor for all to see and proudly walk as warriors for their families. This element was eloquently captured by Mr. Al Caperna during his presentation on mentoring and leadership when he said, "If you are here, you are a TYRO. And if you are a TYRO, you have been called to be a leader."
